The Dayton
Chapter of the International Plastic Modelers Society is the oldest
continuously functioning IPMS chapter in the United States, having been
organized in July, 1968 and receiving its charter in September of that year.
Dayton IPMS members are a mixture of military, non-military, college faculty
members, students, retirees, aerospace employees and folks from all walks of
life. One of the founding members and three members from the 1968-’69 roster
are still active in both chapter activities and modeling.
From its inception the chapter has emphasized teaching modeling skills, with speakers, demonstrations of modeling techniques, and seminars at each meeting including presentations on the historical aspects related to our hobby. The chapter has also held a monthly model contest continuously since 1969 with results culminating in annual awards in a variety of categories, hosted a multi-state regional and/or invitational contest yearly for more that 20 years, and hosted the IPMS National convention in 1988. Special projects of a voluntary nature for the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force and other locations are done from time to time. The club holds Make And Take functions with local youth organizations and supplies volunteers for Dayton PBS fund raising drives. Everyone and anyone interested participating in an Equal Opportunity model building organization run by and for model builders is welcome. We hold meetings at 3 PM on the third Sunday of each month, except for holiday conflicts, at the Peace Lutheran Church, 3530 Dayton Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio.
